A Man thing

I look across the sands towards the pier,
wonder if I have time to walk the beach
before the tide comes in. Give it a try,
but soon it is apparent I cannot.
I could walk back and round, decide instead
to clamber up the rocks to prom above.
Seems rational to me.

My doctor,
whilst prescribing pain killers, opines
to do stupid things
at an age
when we should know much better
is, without doubt,
a man thing!

  1. Ouch! So you fell?

I think your doc is right. Women would just wait till ebb and have a sandwich to kill the time or something.

But it is a good poem, so that is the benefit of the fall! Hope the killers did their job well! πŸ™‚

    • belfastdavid Says:

I did fall Ina – bruised or cracked ribs the doctor said. Trouble is I have now developed a chest infection so am having to take it very easy and look after myself. DUH!

But you are right – far too good an episode to let pass without a poem πŸ™‚
And actually there was a woman pondering the walk at the same time – she didn’t try!! πŸ™‚

      • Cracked ribs and pneumonia?! Oh you poor thing, take good rest and such. {{hugs!}}

      • belfastdavid Says:

Ah, not pneumonia Ina, just a chest infection and hopefully the antibiotics along with rest and TLC will take care of that πŸ™‚

        Some days I worry myself,
Some days I worry about myself πŸ™‚

Hugs are always welcome – but gentle ones preferred at the moment πŸ™‚

  2. Peter Doyle Says:

    perfectly rational David. : )

  3. christine Says:

After our initial conversation regarding this, I could now say “no comment”!

But as Ina says it is a good poem, in fact I think it’s very good, with just enough information to come to our own conclusions!

It’s awful for you that the effects are lasting longer than you expected, but it is a chance to rest a while and take care of you because you are important to the people around you.

    Lots of love

    Christine

    • belfastdavid Says:

That is a lovely thing to say Christine. Thank you very much.

And I will take it easy – Promise.

      Lots of love

  4. I know you got hurt so I’m sorry for that but it was a humorous little slice. I think men do stupid things at any age, but then again so do woman.

    • belfastdavid Says:

I do well not to take myself too seriously most of the time πŸ™‚

I suspect men are less likely than women to want to grow up!! We are all little boys at heart

      Good to have you visit

  5. So it is bronchitis? That is horrible, just when you can’t really cough. Get pampered well!
I tried to find a nice poem about bronchitis on the net for you, but they were not really good.

    • belfastdavid Says:

πŸ™‚ No, not bronchitis either Ina – although I suppose if I did not look after myself it could turn into one of those things.

And one of the purposes of keeping taking the pain killers is so that I don’t restrict the coughing, as to do so could lead to stuff gathering on my lungs (too much informaion perhaps) πŸ™‚

So – keep taking the tablets and take it easy – don’t go out walking in the wind and rain!! I even took the car when I went out for a paper this morning πŸ™‚

  6. πŸ™‚ That is good. You could consider reading papers online?
Anyway, I hope you have a painless cough then!
I had bronchitis ( I know, this is not that) for years every winter, and I found that sitting more or less in bed is better than laying flat. And vicks rubs?

    • belfastdavid Says:

      Ah Ina,

The paper I choose to read charges to read it online. And anyway I do like the paper in my hands, my reclining armchair and a nice mug of Yorkshire tea. πŸ™‚

And yes Vicks rub is good to help get a good night’s sleep πŸ™‚

      • Sounds cosy πŸ™‚ I hope you will be less cracked up soon.

      • belfastdavid Says:

        *Big Smile*

Well on the way Ina. Today I will have my reclining armchair, my newspaper and football on the TV. Oh, and several mugs of tea πŸ™‚

  7. Well, you have been in the wars, David; hope you’re mending and not in too much discomfort. Still, what a lovely, wry poem you got out of it – I really love the curt line ‘Seems rational to me’ which I feel perfectly sums up the male psyche. And I’ve discovered that if I call my (many) daily idiocies ‘suffering for my art’ instead of ‘stupid things’, I can delay growing-up pretty well indefinitely! Thanks for sharing the moment with us; get well soon, my friend.

    • belfastdavid Says:

Thank you Nick for giving me a big smile this morning.
I will be fine as long as I do what I am told (Yes I know!!) πŸ™‚

I have a son who is a GP so when he and my own GP tell me the same thing I guess I better go along with it!! Particularly when my GP says things like – Do what you are told or the alternative might involve a spade!!!

So I have cancelled the things I was going to do this weekend and will settle for peace, quiet and good wholesome food. πŸ™‚

  8. Football, well don’t try and do a wave πŸ™‚

    • 4-1 ! congrats! (or was it 5-1 even? )I happend to zap into it.

      • belfastdavid Says:

        πŸ™‚

That was a different match, although a terrific result for Leeds πŸ™‚ – I was spoilt for choice and watched the Manchester United game and then later the Arsenal game.
        I resisted the wave!! πŸ™‚
There are two more matches on today!! – Feet up, armchair, several mugs of tea – Lovely πŸ™‚

  9. πŸ™‚ Enjoy! I bet there is a poem in football. If you want πŸ™‚

  10. Vera Hazelgrove Says:

Hopefully you had a good weekend and are feeling better already?!
Those mugs of tea sound as nice as your poem πŸ™‚ though I personally disagree with the “man thing” but then we usually see the world through our own eyes πŸ™‚
A very careful and gentle (((Hug))) and
I am wishing that you will be well soon and
climbing over more rocks,- just not when you are
in a hurry and they are wet! πŸ™‚

    Vera & Karley

    • belfastdavid Says:

      *Big Smile*

You are a woman after my own heart Vera πŸ™‚

I am certainly feeling better. somewhere along the line I have learnt that sometimes it is best if I do what I am told πŸ™‚

Next time I go back to Whitby perhaps I will photograph those rocks rather than try to climb them πŸ™‚

“very careful and gentle (((Hug)))s” are very welcome – I feel better already πŸ™‚

Best wishes to you and Karley

      David

  11. Smiling, at the things we do, or try to do, whichever… Hope you are well on the road back by now!! If we only did what was considered safe, life would be rather dull at times!! Really enjoyed this, and can so see why you did it!! Big (not so tight) Hugs!!! Sandy

    • belfastdavid Says:

      *Big Smile*

It is always a pleasure to have you drop in Sandy. And somehow I am not surprised thay you “can so see why you did it” πŸ™‚

I am well on the mend now but shall we have a cuddle instead of a hug? πŸ™‚

      David

  12. Don’t climb wet rocks.

And, be mindful of your age before you strip to socks and slide down the newly polished wood floor in the hallway to the front door! The vase on the three legged table cannot be replaced. *sigh* My broken toe has still not mended. And, I have the bigger bruise of having to concede that I am (maybe) not as nimble as I used to be.

    See….it isn’t just a man thing! πŸ™‚

    Much love,
    Shirley

    • belfastdavid Says:

You have me sitting here Shirley laughing out loud – which still pains my ribs, but is well worth it.

      Thank you for that!! πŸ™‚

      Much love
      David

  13. You know I went right back and did it again, just to prove that I could. I can. πŸ™‚

    • belfastdavid Says:

      *Big, Big Grin*

You know Shirley, I am not at all surprised that you went right back and did it again!!! πŸ™‚
